Paper Clips -- HBO - Wednesday, November 9, 2005 - 7:30 p.m. (EST)

One of the most compelling - and horrifying - aspects of the Holocaust is the sheer unbelievable enormity of it. How does the mind comprehend the murders of so many millions of people, not to mention the evil minds that conjure up such a plan? The numbers alone are unfathomable. So you've got to hand it to a group of adolescents in Whitwell, Tennessee, who in 1998, were given the assignment of collecting millions of paper clips, one for each person killed by the Nazis. Ultimately, these Appalachian kids a world away from the gas chambers of Europe collected more than 27 million clips. Paper Clips is a documentary that tells the story of maybe one of the most creative and important homework assignments ever.
