CBS News Sunday Morning - Sundays 9 - 10:30 a.m. (ET)
The purpose of this space is just as it sounds -- to offer a humble opinion as to which one news or documentary show you should watch in the upcoming week, if you can watch only one. Typically, therefore, I will suggest a specific episode of a continuing documentary or newsmagazine, or a special documentary.
This week, though, I choose a program that is consistently of a quality rarely found in broadcast television. CBS News Sunday Morning is the TV equivalent of that weekend morning hot cup of coffee and newspaper -- something to be savored, with thoughtful long-form stories on topics that would never have a chance on most news programs. Whether a review of the latest King Tut museum exhibition, a profile of balladeer Don McLean or a feature story on the history and popularity of front porches, Sunday Morning's correspondents tell the story with thoughtfulness, wit and a purposeful lack of sensationalism.
At church or otherwise unavailable on Sunday mornings? This one's worth taping every week, and it has a long shelf life. Try it.
